Island Transit is excited to participate in the National Week Without Driving—a week-long event that challenges community members to experience life without driving. Whether you're a frequent rider or new to public transit, this challenge invites everyone to rethink how they get around. The event is not just about transportation; it's about gaining perspective on the daily challenges people face when they can't rely on a car.

Why Participate?

Many people in our community—including those with disabilities, seniors, and youth—navigate life without access to a personal vehicle. By participating in the Week Without Driving, you'll get a first-hand understanding of the barriers and opportunities they encounter. This challenge raises awareness about the importance of accessible, reliable, and sustainable public transit systems.

Plus, it’s a fun and engaging way to discover the convenience of Island Transit’s fare-free bus services. Whether you're commuting to work, running errands, or exploring the islands, let us be your ride!

How to Take Part

1.        Pledge to go car-free for a full week (except for emergency situations). You can bike, walk, roll, or ride with Island Transit instead!

2.        Share your experience: Document your journey by sharing photos or videos of you on Island Transit buses and get a chance to win a prize! The person(s) with the most pictures and/or videos submitted at the end of the week will win a prize! We’ll share your photos on our social media too. Submit your photos and/or videos here.

3.        Encourage others: Challenge your friends, family, and coworkers to join. The more, the merrier!
