TRAVEL TRAINING
Ready to experience the freedom of taking public transit?
Puts you in control of your schedule, your time, and your life.
Travel Training is an Island Transit program that helps seniors, persons with disabilities, and those unfamiliar with our bus service gain more independence by assisting them in becoming fixed route bus riders.
The training is tailored to meet your needs, whether you need general bus riding information or more one-on-one in-depth training. We familiarize you with how the system works, most importantly, how the system can work for your specific needs. If you are hesitant to ride the bus, Travel Training will give you the confidence you need to be comfortable and in control of your schedule and your life. Instruction is customized to meet everyone’s unique needs and can last however long it takes you to feel safe and confident using Island Transit’s bus service. This is a free service.

(2) One-on-One Training
Our program is a free service tailored to the individual needs of each rider. We work with your schedule. Our trainers meet with you at your home to show you how to get to and from your desired destination safely. Trainers even ride by your side, walking with you to the bus stop and riding along on actual routes. You decide when you are ready, you can ask all the questions you want along the way.
(3) Group Training
Travel training can work with groups up to three people from group homes, retirement communities, schools, or other facilities. Group training can be for enjoyment or educational purposes such as dining out, going to the movie theaters, libraries, museums, religious functions, or shopping malls.
