 It is a pleasure and a privilege to serve you!Island Transit is a Public Transportation Benefit Area (PTBA) / public municipal corporation (per Washington State RCW 36.57A). We are proud to serve our lovely Island County communities by providing transit and rideshare services that are safe, efficient and convenient for all residents and visitors alike. By sharing the ride, our customers help do their part to lessen congestion on our roadways and cut air pollution! And when they ride public transit, they're going to their jobs, shopping, school and health services - everything that contributes to a strong and prosperous community.

Our Mission The mission of Island Transit is to provide a package of ridesharing services which emphasizes rider use, safety, satisfaction and results in increased mobility opportunities, less dependence on the automobile, decreased traffic congestion, and improved air quality for all people in the service area, riders and non-riders alike. Why is Island Transit Fare Free? The Island Transit Board of Directors feels that charging a fare is contrary to the mission of Island Transit. Typically, for smaller or rural transit systems, collecting a fare generates virtually no usable revenue because of the costs associated with the collection of the fare!!! In addition, the farebox imposes an unnecessary inconvenience which is detrimental to ridership, and therefore contrary to the mission. Island Transit is pre-paid with a local Sales Tax of 6/10ths of 1% on every dollar spent in Island County. | ||||||
